About Us

Dale Steigerwald is the owner and instructor for C.O.B.R.A. Self-Defense Beaver County. He has over a decade of experience in martial arts instruction, and over two decades of training. He is an interantaionally recognized master of Wing Chun Kung Fu and has been teaching since 2006. Dale has taught combat skills to children, adults, and college students. He earned a bachelors degree in education from Geneva College, and has completed 36 graduate credit hours at the University of Pittsburgh, and is recognized by the state of Pennsylvania as a Certified Level II Professional Educator.

Dale became interested in the C.O.B.R.A. Self-Defense system when he was doing research to develop his own self-defense curriculum because he recognized that everyone has a need to learn self-defense skills, even if they don’t want to become a full blown martial artist. With news report after news report of violent crimes ocurring daily, he knew it didn’t have to be this way. He knew that the good guy needs access to the skills to survive a violent encounter and return home to thier loved ones each day. He also knew that much of what others were offering locally were not actually self-defense skills, but methods that would more than likely get the user hurt when in a confrontation with a real bad guy. During his research phase, one program kept popping up over-and-over again because it connected so closely to what his years of studying martial arts and self defense taught him, and because it was so closely tied to what he was creating, and of course that was the C.O.B.R.A. Self Defense System. Rather than reinvent the wheel, Dale decided to become a C.O.B.R.A. Certified Self-Defense Instrutor and have his martial arts academy become the only local C.O.B.R.A. Self Defense Training Facility.

Dale found that C.O.B.R.A. was the most comprhensive self defense program to be found anywhere. While many self defense programs only focus on physical techniques, C.O.B.R.A. includes all of the fundamental elements of self defense such as, the psychology of self defense, identifying threats, becoming a hard target, de-esculation tactic, scenario training, and of course the functional self defense techniques that are simple, effective and easy to learn. Getting certified to teach the C.O.B.R.A. curriculum was really a no-brainer for him.

C.O.B.R.A. Self Defense is an International organization located in Clearwater Florida that trains individuals to become instructors. C.O.B.R.A. stands for Combat Objective Battle Ready Application. It is a 10-week self-defense academy. You start and finish with the same group and everyone works on the same level. You will participate in real-life scenario training and drills, learning how to handle a real life attack or situation. C.O.B.R.A. is in an academy form. It is a non-martial arts system, which means you will be in street clothes and will not be earning a belt. It’s like a police academy for civilians. It’s a professional program with an emphasis on student safety.
